Tom Baker

As for most American viewers, Tom Baker was my first doctor; and for a long time my favorite, until I discovered William Hartnell. It's likely that Baker's energy, charisma, and overall enthusiasm for being Doctor Who kept the series alive and made it possible to continue to exist today.
